It is a 7 meters high natural cave, an extension of the Habib-i Neccar mountain. After the death of Jesus Christ, St. Pierre, one of his apostles, came to Antakya (in the first half of 1st century A.D.) and started preaching here.
The name “Hristos”, he who believes in Jesus, was given to the community of this church for the first time. In was acknowledged as the pilgrimage place of the Christianity by Pope Paul VI in 1983. St. Pierre Day is celebrated on 29th of June every year.
